‘Half of US citizens live below poverty’

Almost half of the Americans are living under the poverty line and considered as poor according to the US Census Bureau.

Sheldon Danziger, professor in University of Michigan who is a specialist in poverty said, “safety net programs such as food stamps and tax credits kept poverty from rising even higher in 2010, but for many low-income families with work-related and medical expenses, they are considered too `rich' to qualify.”

Danziger also said “the reality is that prospects for the poor and the near poor are dismal … If Congress and the states make further cuts, we can expect the number of poor and low-income families to rise for the next several years.”

The American establishment has not learned any lessons so far and as a result it is unable to protect its citizens from the poverty. If the American establishment fails to act quickly then its own citizens will rise against it to protect their rights.
