Facts about Kashmir

More than hundred thousand Kashmiri’s have died in Indian occupied Kashmir since 1989. Kashmiri people are struggling for independence from India for more than fifty years. United Nations has tried to resolve the Kashmir conflict.

The Security Council of United Nations passed resolution 47 (1948), “that both India and Pakistan desire that the question of the accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India or Pakistan should be decided through the democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite”. India is consistently denying to organize the plebiscite according to the United Nations’ resolution.

There are more than 800,000 Indian soldiers in Kashmir trying to suppress freedom movement. Kashmir has become the most militarized zone in the world due to the actions of the Indian army. Kashmir has a population of 14 million which is more than 114 member countries of the United Nations.

With an area of 86,000 square miles Kashmir is more than three times the size of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxemburg combined. Kashmir is larger than 87 sovereign countries of the world and it shares borders with Pakistan, China, India and Afghanistan.
The strategic location of Kashmir demands an intervention by the international community to resolve the Kashmiri conflict. Otherwise, this conflict has a potential of becoming a wider conflict involving nuclear powers of India and Pakistan. This will have vital effects on the peace and stability of South Asia and the world.
