Brexit: Rise of xenophobia in the West

Neo-Nazis have flourished during EU referendum in UK. There are numerous reports in the media about the rise of racism in UK and Europe. Wales-born former Conservative parliamentary candidate Shazia Awan has been told to 'go home' on Twitter.

Dozens of incidents involving hate crime and racial abuse have been reported to authorities. Police is investigating a racist graffiti on Polish centre after EU referendum. In one incident a man told a car driver “Go back to your country” after having arguments with someone in a car in Hackney. The incident was filmed.

British Prime Minister David Cameron said, “we will not stand for hate crime or these kinds of attacks. They must be stamped out.” Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn asked Cameron to “take all the action they can to halt these attacks, this disgraceful racist behaviour on the streets of this country”.

The West loves to lecture the whole world about the human rights, equality and fairness. While lecturing others the West forgets that it committed the worst atrocities such as genocide, colonization and crimes against humanity. The West has a long history of xenophobia and islamophobia. During Spanish Inquisition Muslims and Jews were killed and persecuted. The West also committed holocaust which is one of the worst crimes of human history. The West should stop lecturing others and try to clean up its own acts.
