Is Pakistan in danger of collapse within months?

Anti-Pakistan forces are gearing up to spread a new spate of propaganda against Pakistan. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is leading the charge. It would be interesting to watch next six months to check the credibility of US officials. These officials belong to the same country – USA, which used the existence of weapons of mass destruction to invade Iraq.

Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs Howard L. Berman said, “it is very alarming that we are now hearing predictions from a number of leading experts that Pakistan could collapse in as little as six months”.

Hillary Clinton said that current situation in Pakistan, “poses a mortal threat to the security and safety of our country and the world”. She further added that “I think that we can not underscore [enough] the seriousness of the existential threat posed to the state of Pakistan … I think the Pakistani government is basically abdicating to the Taleban and the extremists”. She described the rebels in Pakistan as a “loosely-confederated group of terrorists and others seeking to overthrow the Pakistani state”.

In response to mounting pressure on Pakistan its army chief Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani condemned “pronouncements by outside powers raising doubts on the future of the country.” He also said, “Pakistan army never has and never will hesitate to sacrifice whatever it may take to ensure safety and well being of people of Pakistan and country's territorial integrity”.

USA and its allies have lost the war in Afghanistan, now they are trying to pressurize Pakistan. However, their efforts to reinstate their hegemony in this region will fail miserably. Wait for next six months.
